How can I become a Good Leader in a bad crisis by John C.Maxwell

Extracted from Leading Through Crisis by John C. Maxwell in A Visual Leadership Summit 2020

Well, let me give you simple thoughts quickly, later I'm going to dive into a little bit deeper.

No 1). If you want to be a Good Leader and help people through a crisis. Your number one priority is To Put People First. This is easy because number one priority is always good for leaders that good time and bad time is to put the people first.

In this case with Coronavirus is the safety of the people. But what leaders know is that when they take on mantle leadership it's all about the people. It's not about me. I gave up my rights to put me first when I became a leader. It's all about you and it's all about how can I help you, serve you, lift you, love you.

I do not want to minimize the crisis that we are in, we are in a world crisis. But I also do not want to minimize the role that leadership has in a crisis which is to help people get through it and not only get through it but to become better because of it. If you're leading people in a crisis, the first priority is All About The People. But if you are not in a crisis, I got good news for you Your First Priority Is Still People First. It's all about them.

By the way so many time, they put themselves before others in a crisis. That crisis just begins to multiply in the lives of so many people. That's always wrong.

No 2). To be a Good Leader in a crisis is To Educate ourselves. Another word, know what the issue really is. There is a lot of uncertainties about the Coronavirus but I'm talking about knowing and educating and getting our best mind around what the issue really is. World Health Organization (WHO) gives you daily situation report or the Center for Disease Control (CDC) they have website. So, I would encourage you to get it educated and know what you're dealing with as a leader. I would go to these sources.

Let me just say a few encouraging things, first of all we know what the virus is. When AIDS came out of 1981 it took two years to identify the virus HIV that was causing disease. With Covid-19 it literally on December 31st, the issue was reported in China and by the January 7th the virus had been identify. I just want to encourage you that there have been much more uncertain times of just even knowing what the virus is much more uncertain times than what we're going through right now with Coronavirus.

Secondly, We know how to detect the virus. In fact since January 13 we've literally had tests available that can detect the virus. This is a plus and essential.

Thirdly, many of the cases are no symptoms. They are mild symptoms.

Fourth, relatively few cases occur to people under 20.

Five, the mortality rate under 40 is quite small.

Six, the virus can be wiped clean.

Seven, science is on globally. Back in 2003 during SARS epidemic it took over a year for us to get less information upon SARS epidemic. It did for us to get on the corona virus.

Good things are happening that you know there's already have some vaccine prototypes. As leaders we need to have healthy knowledge of what we're dealing with.

(Will be continued posting on our blog regarding this title with No 3), No 4) and more....)
